“WATCHMAN WHAT OF THE NIGHT”?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Sunday morning I began a series\nof messages at the church under the title “watchman what of the\nnight”? There are seven other messages under this title which I will be\nspeaking on and turning into a blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Sunday, I spoke on the question\nwhich is taken from Isaiah 21 verses 11 and 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what\nof the night? Watchman, what of the night? The watchman said, The morning\ncometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come”.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the coming weeks the list\nof messages are:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) The handwriting on the wall<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) The great falling away<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3) Give them warning for me<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4) A stone cut out from the side of a\nmountain<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5) When the fulness of the Gentiles come in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6) These are the days of Christ, not\nthe days of Elijah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7) Before the midnight hour<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inspiration for these messages is\ntaken from Brexit. For nearly three years the world has been in a tailspin of\nepic proportion. One cannot be certain what will happen next. Words such as\nhistoric, unprecedented, unpredictable are in currency as social commentators\nand the media tries to explain, follow and predict what’s next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The church cannot be silent at such a\ntime as this; we must enter into our closets or when together get in the Spirit\nthat we may hear from God so we can declare it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2016 is an important year in modern\nhistory. It was the year Britain voted to leave the EU after over 45 years of\nmembership. It was also the year Donald Trump was elected president of the USA\nagainst almost all the odds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Trump fought off sixteen other\nRepublican candidates and secured the nomination to run and as we know went on\nto win the presidency despite losing the popular vote by a margin of 3 million\nvotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2016, Mrs Theresa May became Prime Minister of Britain following the sudden resignation of David Cameron because he was on the losing side of the EU referendum. Despite a string of potential candidates for prime minister the least likely winner, Theresa May, became PM without an election, for the other candidates all conspired to destroy each other or themselves leaving Mrs May as the only candidate and therefore successor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs May should have worked with the\nother political leaders and parties and engaged with the country on the\ndelivery of Brexit but not until very recently was she willing to do so. Instead\npride got the better of her which always come before destruction. “It’s my\nway or no way” has become the epithet or is it epitaph of her\npremiership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadly for her, her way has humiliated\nher for despite losing cabinet minister after cabinet minister and vote after\nvote she doggedly persisted until she recently turned to the other party\nleaders for help in what can only be seen as total humiliation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It need not have turned out like\nthis. Mrs May sat in the cabinet for six years as Home Secretary and witnessed\nthe dangers of pride which brought down Mr Cameron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hubris caused him to have the\nreferendum; he should have learned from almost losing Scotland a few years\nearlier in another Referendum but no he thought he had it “in the\nbag”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite witnessing the dangers of\npride Mrs May succumbed to it, believing in her own rhetoric until her fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The words of Isaiah quoted above refers to the fall of Babylon during the reign of Belshazzar. It was he who under the influence of alcohol got carried away with his invincibility and self importance and commanded that the vessels that were inside the Jewish temple, dedicated to the service of God, should be brought to him so he could misuse them in his drunken stupor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as fun was to God sacrilege\nso God wrote on the palace wall in full view of those present: “you have\nbeen weighed in the balance and have been found wanting”. Daniel who gave\nthe interpretation to the writing went on say the kingdom would be taken by\nanother power and he Belshazzar would be killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History describes the last days of\nBelshazzar and the fall of the Babylonian empire never to rise again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Britain has been a thorn in the side\nof the European Union from becoming a member. It’s the fly in the ointment the\ngrit in the oyster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The old Roman Empire cannot be rebuilt;\nneither can Europe be allowed to be too strong. Europe is the place where two world\nwars were fought. Russia will always cause trouble and pursue colonial policies\nin an attempt to regain greatness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watchman what of the night? Watch\nRussia! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pride is the biggest sin that we are\ncommitting as individuals and nations. We are even redefining pride from a vice\nto a virtue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pride produces nationalism,\nxenophobia, racism and civil unrest as we lobby, petition and march in the name\nof human rights. Extreme human right is Pride. We want the right to be who we\nchoose to be, say what we want to say, lie if we think it will serve our cause\nand everyone else must accept this. Human rights to bear the most deadly fire\narms and to use it to defend or further our human rights, racism and even to\nthreaten other nations. These are dangerous times; world order has all but\nbroken down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laws have been passed to accommodate\npride but God still hates pride. God still resists the proud and pride still\ncomes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In closing, I call upon the church to\nbe the prophetic voice in the land for in the words of the prophet Amos: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Will a lion roar in the forest,\nwhen he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has taken\nnothing? [5] Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for\nhim? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?\n[6] Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall\nthere be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it? [7] Surely the Lord God\nwill do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.\n[8] The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can\nbut prophesy”? (Amos 3:4-8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
